Trump Reportedly Backs Plan to Cede Ukrainian Territory to Russia in Pursuit of Peace Deal..

Donald Trump is reportedly supporting a plan that would see Ukraine cede unoccupied territory in the Donbas region to Russia as part of a broader peace settlement. According to sources, Vladimir Putin has demanded Ukraine’s withdrawal from Donetsk and Luhansk as a condition for halting the war.

While Luhansk is almost entirely under Russian control, Ukraine continues to hold key parts of Donetsk, including the heavily fortified cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, where battles have already claimed tens of thousands of lives.

Putin proposed that in return for Ukraine’s withdrawal from Donetsk and Luhansk, Russia would freeze its military advances along the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia frontlines.

Trump’s endorsement of ceding the Donbas region, which is rich in coal and iron ore, marks a dramatic policy shift. On Saturday, Trump said that a direct peace deal was more effective than a ceasefire, which he argued “often do not hold up.”

However, the move risks deepening divisions with Ukraine and European allies, who strongly oppose conceding territory to Russia.

The German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, stated that the US is prepared to participate in security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a deal. Trump has also warned of economic sanctions against nations purchasing Russian oil if Moscow rejects the proposal.

Despite these developments, Ukrainian and European leaders fear that bypassing a ceasefire and rushing straight into a peace agreement could give Moscow the upper hand in negotiations.
